It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Johanna “Jo” Wilson, lovingly also known as “Amma”, on January 2, 2026, at the remarkable age of 106.
Johanna was born in Winnipeg on November 15, 1919, and throughout her long life she was a proud and devoted member of Winnipeg’s Icelandic community. A long-standing and highly respected member of the Icelandic Canadian Frón and the Jón Sigurðsson Chapter of the IODE, Jo gave tirelessly of her time, spirit, and creativity.
The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa for their kindness and care.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jón Sigurðsson IODE Scholarship Fund or to the Lӧgberg-Heimskringla in Johanna’s memory.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. with lunch to follow.
